by Ned Greenough

/
1.
Interlude 02:35
Narrator: Camelot lies in ruin. It has been thirty years since Arthur left the kingdom. He and his loyalists remain in exile out to the east. Mordred, son of Arthur, is now king, wrecking despair and suffering throughout the land..
2.
Mordred: And so it begins With one land united And the son of a fool Has his fate pre-decided Bow down Bow down to me I am your ruler Worship me My interest is not in the betterment of the folk But for the betterment of the throne and those who reign beside him My father's mistakes will not befall unto me For I know no Arthur. I, Mordred, son of God.
3.
The Peasants: These fields don’t plow themselves ya know And I got mouths to feed All that help are paid for some But most just goes away To a throne that makes us wonder If it’ll ever see the day “Don’t lose faith We have followed your grace A new king of the land will come Someday we hope and pray” My daughter’s been sick for many weeks And there’s no one who can help The soldiers laugh and kick us aside They never hear us out They rule with an iron fist of law At night they lurk about “Don’t lose faith We have followed your grace A new king of the land will come Someday we hope and pray Pray to be what was To be what is Arthurian undone An old tale forgotten Truth it will become"
4.
Narrator: Merlin appears to Arthur in a dream, for now is the time for him to reclaim the kingdom Merlin: Arthur… Arthur... It’s time to wake up, I hope you’ve had your fun But your people here are suffering, there’s a kingdom to be run! Only you can save them by the power of the sword Only you can claim the reward Excalibur must be freed for the kingdom you’ll reclaim Throw it back into the seas if you want prosperity to reign To the Lady of the Lake, and there’ll be peace after your throne You must bring Excalibur home Arthur: Oh Merlin, I am weak and it’s well beyond my years My strength has failed me here I know my son is the evil of our time But there’s nothing I can do, I’m too weak and way passed my prime Merlin: Ah yes but there is an answer Send your knights to The Deathland Caves There lies the Holy Grail of the Lord Drink from the chalice and your health be restored Arthur: You’re right Merlin, I’ve been a fool all along I’ll let the past die and right all these wrongs I will return and make the kingdom free one day And all the lives will be saved Once returned to the Lady of the Lake Excalibur will be free of it’s pain I will gather my men at dawn And we will chart a course for The Deathland Caves For it is my duty, that is well, well overdue I, Arthur, will rule this kingdom again
5.
Arthur: I gather all of you here today To speak of a quest that’s for the land We must journey deep into the Deathland Caves In search of the sacred relic of man If I drink from the cup, I’ll pull Excalibur from the stone Take back our kingdom, our original home, we must go To reclaim the throne Bring Excalibur home Fill the kingdom with hope For a new king will rise and the seeds of the free will be sown Gawain: I speak for the knights and we are on your side But I’m afraid we’ll have to leave you behind It’s too dangerous for you to go with us my king We will go to the caves, and the chalice back we’ll bring Arthur: Thank you my son, my life is in your hands Your quest to the caves, will save all of the land, you must go To reclaim the throne Bring Excalibur home Fill the kingdom with hope For a new king will rise and the seeds of the free will be sown Arthur and Knights: To reclaim the throne Bring Excalibur home Fill the kingdom with hope To the caves we will go so the seeds of the free can be sown
6.
Narrator: And so the knights leave at dawn and start the journey of their quest To find the Holy Grail of Christ with all the power it will possess Soon their king will be restored and peace will thrive throughout the land They reach the caves deep in the night, and so begins the final test
7.

8.
Narrator: And so the knights journey deep into the caves Separate paths, each knight must take They must face their fears to find the grail For he who overcomes himself, will prevail Ghost of Lancelot: So we meet again old knight I know why you’re here I know what you want I know what you want Gawain: What foolishness is this? An illusion of some sort, stands in my way From beyond the grave Ghost of Lancelot: I’ve waited many years for this day And now the ultimate price you'll pay Your death could've been by my hand And instead you make me betray the land Gawain: I did no such thing, that choice was yours You did everything you could to take her and you did So I’ll fight fire with fire Come at me you dastard damn of night And I’ll send you back to where you came from This ends now! Ghost of Lancelot: So be it, Gawain, I’m afraid your mistake is immeasurable Gawain: Gah! [gasps in pain] Ghost of Lancelot: Fool. May you rot in hell for your incompetence. Your fear has bested you, and you shall pay the ultimate price.
9.
Narrator: Most knights have perished The caves filled with the dead Awful thoughts are swirling Inside his head For our lone knight Galahad Treading carefully He’s almost at the end He’s almost set free And the grail’s now in sight He must call forth the light A ghastly apparition appears Riding a mare of darkness. He is here. The unwelcomed demon Inches closer more Hops off his steed And opens his door And a swirling black light Beckons in the cave Shows a wooden cross That lightly engraved: “Here lies no one A fool with much debt” Outside there is wailing And grinding of teeth As the moans grow louder The knight becomes aware And the spectacle seizes The door shuts with the air Demon: I am your master Your soul will be mine Narrator: Galahad watches his foe carefully Eyeing his moves, a prey yet to be He draws his sword and prepares for the duel Between good and evil, where there is only one rule Galahad: And with the light I will expose the darkness For light will always win in the prophecy of time You cannot claim me as your own Satan For God is on my side We’ll reclaim the throne Bring Excalibur home Fill the kingdom with hope To the king I will go with the grail of all heavenly hosts
10.
Narrator: Galahad and the remainder of knights journey back and return home They present the Grail of Christ for Arthur to drink from and restore hope As the cup leaves his lips, adrenaline surges and his mind and body regain their strength He walks to the Sword without saying a word, standing from the stone at only arm’s length Arthur: Today’s the day for which God and man will fight side by side for the land It’s time to fix mistakes and restore the kingdom back to the common man
11.
Narrator: Arthur pulls with all of his might The blade cuts through air and brings forth it’s light All gaze in awe at the sight Excalibur's reborn in all white The knights applaud and some begin to sing At the end of their song comes Knights: “Long live the king!” Narrator: Arthur stands and addresses his men For the exile will soon meet its end Arthur: My men, the time has come For us to ride off into the setting sun Fight for what’s ours, what we rightfully own Mordred will fall and we will all reclaim the throne We shall ride off into the night for this war has begun We won’t stop until the final battle is won
12.
I - Nyghtfall [instrumental] II - Last Words Arthur: We gather here for one last time Some will live and some will die But know your efforts are not in vain For good will have victory on this day The throne we’ll reclaim I stand before you here, not a king But a common man like you For I know freedom cannot be taken away There is hope in those enslaved and I know that to be true May God watch over us as we fight for the realm Of peace and hope for all who dwell within May his arms carry you in the light And bring peace in your hearts as your prepare for the fight God speed and take heed III - Ambush! Narrator: The horses ride They burn the tents Trample underfoot Soldiers within They howl and roar Grab for their swords They aren’t expecting Dozens more No outlet And there is no time Many still drunk From the night’s wine The men try to gather Attempt to organize Caught off guard By an ambush at night And the battle of the prophecy has begun! IV - In the Height of Battle [instrumental] V - King Arthur and Sir Mordred Arthur: Mordred, we meet face to face for the first time in many years I've come back to take what’s rightfully mine Mordred: You own nothing! You are an exile and do not belong in this land You will not leave Camlann alive Arthur: My son, you are misguided, corruption has filled your mind and soul You are no king, just a boy who runs a throne Mordred: You have no say in this! You left my mother to die out in the wilds I am not misguided, I am the rightful king And I will kill anyone who stands in my way Such as a fool like you [Mordred stabs Arthur] You will not win, I will not fall My kingdom will reign and you will be erased from history like all others before you For no man or God can take what I -- [Arthur kills Mordred] Arthur: Not today Mordred, not today...
13.
Prophecy 02:15
Narrator: Arthur lies still His lifeblood starts to spillover While his knight Galahad Quickly rides over Galahad: There’s not much time left my King Is there something I can do? I can’t save you Arthur: Take Excalibur home Cast it to the seas To the Lady of the Lake Fulfill the prophecy Narrator: Galahad walks Beside the shoreline With Excalibur in hand It’s power divine He throws it to the seas And he watches it fly And splash in the water Something catches his eye It’s the Lady of the Lake She smiles and winks Submerges back down As Excalibur sinks The sun begins to rise And the wind brings a chill As the prophecy of man Has been finally fulfilled
