A Drop in the Bucket

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) I'm following Ned Greenough for some time now, after peeking into his EP "Chances" and his first-class FAWM 2019 contribution about Excalibur. The brand-new "A Drop in the Bucket" really floored me from the first note on, so I couldn't resist buying it immediately. The piano riffs remind me of Ben Folds, the vocals of Tom Slatter - these two pleasant associations, complemented with real breathtaking songwriting, make this album irresistible. Favorite track: Tiger Striped Lily.

Too much time, too many days Lost in the haze, I was saying that yesterday The future’s so far away But still in my mind there’s something that's closing in It came too quick, it came in fast Kicked in the ass when your trying to break free from your past There’s still so much I lack Running out of time, I just wanna break even now There’s so much I can take Before I run right off the plate If I cross the line, you can guess who's to blame I know, ‘till my last breath I will work myself to death Trying to break even on the dumbest bet Lost in a world that’s all your own With no place you can call home Still you search for a new soul People judge and criticize They only see through their own eyes Forcing you a new disguise Drive you mad until your insane Something in the brain though others can’t get through the pain Some say it's all the same But still in my mind I haven’t quite made that clear

Confessor 06:15
East of the boundary Lies a home of many folk Each to do his duty Follow orders and do as told For here our ruler Like no other in the land Shall reign not by steel But the touch of her hand An old ancient power That lies in each heir Shall lead us to victory And leave all opposed left in fear Bring forth the prisoner Let him say what he has to say By the time we are done here We will know the truth anyway For there lies a punishment that Few have ever seen You’ll obey her command And bow before your queen With a simple touch You’ll give up what remains To slave yourself and your mind For the rest of your days “I love you so You are everything I know My life is yours, my soul in your hands I will be what you want me to be I am your slave, mistress, my queen In your hands I’m just a pawn!” Mother of the midlands Looking out with a careful eye An old world is rising Where the shadows fly Ahead lies a foe Like none faced before The land of D’Hara Is hungry for war There your true test waits you Confessor of Midlands Will you claim another victory? Or be slain by the enemies hand?

Have you ever thought about us? Have you ever thought of what could have been? Do you end up praying for us? Have I come to mind at least now and then? ‘Cause I don’t know I can’t tell If it’s forgotten One try Of wasted time Since parted I was treading the line To make up mind Now here we are Can you see the storm clouds rising? Can you feel the lightning crack through the air? Can you hear the thunder pounding? Does the look in my eyes make you scared? Wasted heart Wasted love Is the outcome The good you’ve done It’s gone away Since the new front Heed the words I say Or regret it ‘till the day That you die Can you hear them now? The words I said that day? When nothing else mattered to you, and vengeance was your way I’m not sticking close to see how you are Independent prototype, let’s all see how far I’ve wasted my time Now rid me of this crime Now

Wake up Look outside Through the stained glass Of my window You wake up Beside me The books are All disheveled There’s a young man Wandering around In my garden He’s staring at me With a stone cold face Guilt is proven There’s a black rose Floating in the wind Grabs his attention It’s time to act Don’t hold back No hesitation “Pick up, the books I’m going, outside” Trespass, in my land Eye for, an eye Hatchet comes down in violent pace With all the blood to bear No detective can trace The fingerprints of air Don’t disturb what’s left of mine This garden makes me whole The only way to spend my time As an old forgotten soul
5.
She walks around with careless grace A violin in her hand She plays all morning through summer days No one quite understands Her boyfriend comes at two o'clock In his car are some of his friends He says “You coming with us babe?” She sighs, hops in the back It didn’t really matter then, but how it matters now “Where are you going baby? What have I done to piss you this time? What are you talking about honey? You know I had it all and then I left it behind What are you doing darling? What makes it wrong, what makes it right? What should you do now baby? You have it all now leave it behind” Her father doesn’t like it when She’s out too late at night Especially with a man like that Lord knows what’s on his mind She plays her violin at night To calm herself for sleep She then hears a knock at the door It makes her stomach weak
6.
Little is the man, larger is the plan, now he’s on his own Gonna get the heat, quicker on his feet, doesn’t like the cold Got something in mind, does it all the time, but he’s on his own Getting what he wants, checking in the clock, then he’s going home Won’t you leave him alone? Won’t you leave him alone? Come on, leave him alone Won’t you leave him alone? Little doesn’t talk , Little goes for walks, Little all alone Little needs a friend, someone ‘till the end, someone he can hold Always does his share, still nobody cares, ‘cause he’s on his own Likes to look around, lives in same old town, there’s nowhere else to go Little speaks his mind, then gets criticized, Little outta hope Doesn’t feel its right, happens day and night, where’s he gotta go? Little wants a change, no one knows his name, got nothing to show Little had a team, they thought he was mean, so now he’s on his own

A tiger striped lily I found On my way from walking in from the town I gave it to you and it made you laugh You said “What in God’s name is that?” Though I couldn’t reply I had to decide That maybe later we could get down? Do you wanna get down? Baby let’s get down Do you wanna get down, down? A tiger striped lily for you ‘Cause I knew that you wanted me too You said that we should go for a swim I was hesitant ‘cause the light was dim Though I had to give in And go on a whim ‘Cause maybe later we could get down Do you wanna get down? Baby let’s get down Do you wanna get down, down? Icy cold adrenaline jumps me forward, feeling blood flow through my veins You pull me underwater as I gasp for air inside this lustful cave My senses are enhanced once I can tell you’ve moved the blockade in your mind And with a special hint of body language, you suggest to move inside Move inside Move inside Come to me Let the warmth set you free I’ll hold you close and say I’ll never let go One should heed the call It’d all be over by the fall I’m not here to ruin more friendships You and I were never close enough to call it that, to hell with it! A tiger striped lily I found On my way from walking in from the town I gave it to you and it made you cry You said “I want it tonight!” And I had no reply I couldn’t decide Between the right thing and that look in your eye But it’s ‘bout time I headed out Show me the way out Show me the way out Baby let’s get down, down Love’s a fickle thing With all the problems it brings You had me at first sight I’m sorry tonight’s not the night
8.
I woke up this morning feeling worse than I know that I should Anxiety had seiged me from a world that I never understood She died in my arms as I looked around to see that no one cared My mind was playing tricks on me to see if my attachments lied elsewhere But I’m okay I play the part I’ve been waiting From the start When she kissed me I didn’t feel a thing Conscious fading In the life of a dream Cold sweat beading down as I awake from a dreadful night Maybe if I sleep faster I’ll have a chance to save another life Sharp witted but brainwashed to believe this is real and not a dream Love, anger, and hatred, cycle through the mind of a sleeper not as keen Won’t you come on through and lock the door behind? Lean close to me, and tell me it’s alright Is there something I can do, to make it me this time Oh just this time Tell me it’s alright
9.
There’s a friend of mine who likes to play guitar He doesn’t like to play for crowds that go too far His girlfriend loves to hear him strum the same old chords She listens intently until she gives up and gets bored But he has a dream of stardom when he plays Being up on stage a part of everything A drop in the bucket She made a post of her singing online Some producer (big man) saw it, said this bitch is mine Flew her out to California in due time Worked for three years, didn’t see a dime Now she’s looking for compassion in this state Some sort of connection that isn’t fame A drop in the bucket
